FRED TIBBITTS & ASSOCIATES NINETEENTH ANNUAL

“An Autumn Evening in New York with Very Special Friends”

The Union League Club, New York City, 16 November 2010

New York City – The Nineteenth Annual FTA “An Autumn Evening in New York with Very Special Friends” at The Union League Club proved to be another memorable event for the one hundred-twenty guests, who included the FTA 2010 honorees, hotel and restaurant senior executives, vice presidents, managing directors, industry VIP’s, industry press and sponsors.  The reception was trade show style, showcasing the products and services of many of the sponsors.  Executive Chef Arturo Paz and Chef Patrick Ach of Phillips Foods prepared and served their famous Phillips Mini-Crab Cakes, while Strassburger Meats prepared and served their Strassburger Fillet as well as “Suzy Sirloin” Lamb, Cheese & Parsley Premium Sausage and “Suzy Sirloin” Ground Veal Meatballs.  All guests were formally announced.

During the four-course gala dinner Fred Tibbitts, Jr., president & chief executive of Fred Tibbitts & Associates, Inc., welcomed the guests and urged them “To do more for those less fortunate.”  Tibbitts then called for the ecumenical prayers by some of the most renowned clergy in America.  Rett Zabriskie, Domine, The Holland Society of New York said the Reformed Grace, which was one of wit and substance; Reverend Curate Jacob Smith of the Calvary/St. George’s Episcopal Church asked that we count our blessings;  while Reverend Alexandra Honigsberg of the Old Catholic Church in America asked for peace and unity; Tenzin Robert Thurman, president of Tibet House and Jey Tsong, Khappa Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies at Columbia University, said the Tibetan Buddhist Grace and also chanted a special invocation with deep abiding serenity in Tibetan; and Rabbi Emerita, Congregation Shir Tikvah, Minneapolis spoke the Jewish Grace by educating the guests on the Hebrew word “l’chayim”, meaning “To life”…and how the many wines being enjoyed spoke to good health and to life.

The eleven Loyalty Toasts by several of the dinner’s VIP’s, including Alice Elliot, CEO, The Elliot Group; Jerry Leeman, CEO, Perk Dynamics, Inc.; Joe McInerney, President & CEO, American Hotel & Lodging Association; Richard Xu, Editor-in-Chief, New Western Cuisine Magazine; Kenneth Hill, President, Kenneth Hill & Associates; Scott Rohm, Senior Vice President, Operations, The West Paces Hotel Group;  Bill Samenfink, Immediate Past President, ICHRIE; George Korchowsky, Captain, United States Navy Reserve Retired; Walton Van Winkle III, Past President, The Holland Society of New York and Hugh Williamson-Noble, Prudential Douglas Elliman.   The toasts came to a rousing completion when America’s poet laureate, John Blake, raised his glass for the historic, “Knickerbocker Toast”.

Elliot, Leeman, McInerney, Xu and Hill surprised Tibbitts with a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to Tibbitts by Leeman at the podium.  The Award, “In Recognition of Your Outstanding Dedication and Advancement in the Hospitality Industry” is to be accompanied by a scholarship to benefit worthy students at the discretion of Tibbitts.  The fund will be administered without charge by C-Cap, a resource hub designed to assist those wishing to contribute to the Tibbitts scholarship.

Tibbitts then presented Thurman of Tibet House with a check from the dinner proceeds for $500, which will benefit the humanitarian work of Khenpo Lama Pema Wangdak, Director of the Vikramasila Foundation for his work with Tibetan refugee youths in Nepal and India.
